Give

FFLA proudly funds civil legal aid programs that protect families, homes and livelihoods.

In this season of gratitude, our grantees share stories of clients who are thankful for the legal aid they received.

ajay

Ajay came to IDignity in need of his first ever Florida ID and a replacement Green Card. Without a valid ID, Ajay was unable to receive medical care for his health conditions. IDignity’s attorneys helped him complete the Green Card replacement application and obtain his ADIT Stamp. With this, he was able to obtain his Social Security card. Once his Green Card arrives, Ajay will have the documents necessary to get his ID.

Jane Gia

Jane, 77, cares for 13-year-old granddaughter Gia alone in subsidized housing. Although Jane has a power of attorney to care for Gia, the housing authority would not accept it as legal custody, meaning Gia could not live there. When she was threatened with eviction, Jane turned to Three Rivers Legal Services. TRLS obtained a court order awarding Jane temporary legal custody with no expiration, the most a relative can obtain in Florida, preventing her eviction.

richard

With funding from FFLA, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid helped Richard, a disabled veteran, keep a housing subsidy and get his security deposit back when he left his rented home. After dealing with his landlord, who had twice cut off his electricity wrongfully and raised the price, JALA represented Richard at a grievance hearing. They helped preserve his housing voucher, then won a lawsuit for the return of his deposit and $8,000 in damages.

The Florida Bar Foundation’s new name is FFLA!
Though our name has changed, our mission, staff, board members and operations remain the same. We are rebranding to increase awareness and educate those outside of the legal community about the acute need for legal aid funding and the valuable economic impact of accessible, free legal counsel.
