FFLA proudly funds civil legal aid programs that protect families, homes and livelihoods.
In this season of gratitude, we are thankful for our grantees, legal aid organizations that changes lives for clients across our state.
Thank you for being a supporter of civil legal aid in Florida.
Legal aid organizations across the state are changing lives for clients like Joe*, a 70-year-old Floridian who sought help from Gulfcoast Legal Services when his landlord refused to return his security deposit.
Joe’s local housing authority relocated him when his apartment complex failed to make repairs. Joe was living in the complex through a housing authority voucher. After being relocated, the local housing authority canceled the contract with the complex.
Joe waited the required 60 days for his $1,703 security deposit to be returned. But, the apartment complex refused to refund it, claiming Joe violated his lease by moving out and alleging he had a past-due balance. The complex also claimed to have no record of Joe’s housing authority voucher. Fearing he would not receive his security deposit back, Joe turned to Gulfcoast Legal Services.
Joe’s legal aid attorney secured the complete return of his security deposit.
Contributions from donors like you keep legal aid programs for vulnerable groups running.
More than 800 older adults received legal assistance from Gulfcoast Legal Services last year, a 39% increase from the previous year, reflecting broader legal trends such as elder abuse, age discrimination and exploitation of this marginalized group.
Florida has the highest percentage of residents 65 and older in the U.S.
By 2040, seniors in Florida are expected to represent 26% of the population.
To address the needs of Florida’s growing elderly population, FFLA plans to launch
a grant program that will fund and support legal services for the state’s at-risk elderly.
Your donation is guaranteed to have a meaningful impact. Legal Services Corporation recently reported that every $1 invested in civil legal aid returns $7 to the economy.
Will you make a gift today to protect the rights of elderly Floridians?
From investment to return, your donation serves clients and their communities. Give a voice to the people and families behind case numbers. Thank you for your support in the ongoing pursuit of justice.
