FILS will continue to identify children incarcerated in state prisons and juvenile detention facilities suffering under unconstitutionally harsh conditions and will take legal action to enforce their rights. Focus on the punitive treatment of mentally ill children, advocating for adequate mental health care, accommodations for disabilities, and the provision of special education services to which they are legally entitled. FILS and Florida Legal Services will collaborate in the identification and litigation of legal claims on behalf of children in prison and detention facilities.

Peterson St. Philippe provided legal representation to Haitian immigrants in Hillsborough, Manatee, and Pinellas counties. Through the project, St. Philippe increased immigration relief through outreach and legal rights presentations. Additionally, he met the community’s needs by directly representing community members in immigration court. The Florida Bar sponsored $25,000 in addition to the Foundation’s sponsorship.
