New members join FFLA Board of Directors

Polk County lawyer Lakeisha Babers and Tallahassee lawyer Melissa VanSickle have joined FFLA’s board of directors. Their terms began on July 1, 2025.

Babers, who founded Simply Blessed Law Firm, PLLC, was appointed by FFLA and will serve a three-year term. She practices in the areas of family law, bankruptcy and estate planning. After being sworn in as an attorney in April 2006, she worked in the Tenth Judicial Circuit at the Office of the Public Defender, Heart of Florida Legal Aid and the Office of the Guardian ad Litem.

She also helped establish Lake Region High School’s Law Academy, serving as its first director. She taught students at a variety of education levels while earning a Master of Business Administration in Project Management at Florida Institute of Technology. Babers earned both a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and her law degree from Florida State University.   

Melissa VanSickle will serve as a delegate for Florida Bar President-elect Michael Fox Orr. FFLA has six designated directors, including the president, president-elect and immediate past president of The Florida Bar.

VanSickle is a Florida Bar Board Certified Real Estate attorney in the Tallahassee office of Kutak Rock. She has served as the Second Judicial Circuit Representative on The Florida Bar Board of Governors since 2014 and was president of the Tallahassee Bar Association in 2014. VanSickle earned her law degree from Florida State University College of Law.
