Florida Hurricane Legal Aid Fund

Civil Legal Aid: Responding after the storm

When hurricanes and other natural disasters strike, first responders make sure people have the basics – food, shelter, utilities and medical care. But when the survivors start picking up the pieces of their lives, they depend on legal aid providers who offer critical resources. They are in the recovery effort for the long haul, and your donation ensures their success.

Civil Legal Aid meets the need of those most affected in a variety of ways:

  • Insurance Claims
  • FEMA Benefits
  • Housing
  • Employment
  • Lost Legal Documents

Your gift goes directly to hurricane-related civil legal aid. Florida’s civil legal aid organizations provide help securing FEMA and other benefits available to disaster survivors; dealing with life, medical and property insurance claims; addressing issues with home repair contracts and contractors; replacing wills and other important legal documents destroyed in the disaster; handling consumer protection matters, remedies and procedures; preventing foreclosure and resolving landlord/tenant problems; and addressing the unique civil legal needs of poor communities.
