Miami Youth S.H.I.N.E. empowers youth to lead their own advocacy organization; providing “Through the Eyes of the Child” trainings to recruit and train pro bono attorneys for foster youth; providing “Know Your Rights” trainings to educate foster youth about their legal rights; providing a legal helpline for foster youth to call to receive legal assistance; and, providing direct legal representation to foster youth.

The educational Legal Rights Project in Broward and Collier Counties provides legal representation and/or advocacy to indigent students (up to 23 years of age) who qualify under Legal Aid financial guidelines whose needs are not being met in the school system in due process hearings, timely testing, IDEA eligibility determinations and proper academic placement and services.

Provides community education, systemic advocacy, litigation and legal representation to assure that disabled children enrolled in public schools receive legally mandated educational services. The project is also working to develop strategies to stop the flow of children with disabilities into the juvenile justice system.

Provide representation to Orange County children who have been declared dependent by the court due to allegations of abuse, abandonment, or neglect. The mission is to provide holistic advocacy for children with goals of increasing health, mental health, education, independent living and immigration services, protecting their safety and well being, reducing their length of stay in state care, and of those children who age out of licensed care, increasing their success in transitioning from foster care to independence.
