Our vision of an excellent and high-performing pro bono program, is one that: provides a diverse range of meaningful pro bono opportunities for attorneys; provides pro bono attorneys with maximum support including access to CLE trainings and ongoing mentoring; and provides high quality legal representation that will truly benefit our clients. During year one of the grant, LSGMI completed a BPA, hired a pro bono director, implemented processes for volunteer recruitment and retention and created additional classes of pro bono involvement. Year two proposes to address several year one challenges, refine the BPA, and implement a long-term pro bono strategic plan. (Year 2)

During year one of the grant, this collaborative joint transformation completed a rigorous evaluation and assessment yielding 117 recommendations for improvement. Progress slowed near the end of the first year due to Hurricane Michael and a leadership transition in one of the organizations. Year two will focus on implementing the transformation plan and increasing pro bono involvement. (Year 2)

Our vision for a high-performing pro bono program is one that has a full-time attorney staff member dedicated solely to directing our pro bono program that will be integrated across all aspects of our organization (including our board) and systems-focused advocacy on behalf of vulnerable Floridians with the most severe civil legal needs. We envision a model where pro bono lawyers, law students, and other professionals such as psychologists and social workers participate in all aspects of our litigation including at the initial factual investigation and legal research phase. (Year 1)

CABA Pro Bono plans to: 1 )Increase pool of pro bono attorneys by 20% by the end of the second year grant; 2) Decrease the time between a case being referred to CABA Pro Bono and being assigned to a pro bono attorney by 20%; 3) Increase the average number of attorneys signing up for clinics in areas outside of immigration or family law by 15%.

In the second year of funding, SLC plans to make leaps forward in both referring cases for placement with pro bono attorneys but also in successfully placing those cases. Over the course of the second year, SLC anticipates increasing the pro bono panel by 100% to more than 100 volunteers.
