Pro Bono Outreach Project and Legal Redress Workshop: To provide pro bono legal services to members of the NAACP and underprivileged and elderly citizens of Tampa and provide two Legal Redress Workshops to the Tampa Bay Community legal information on topics including criminal law, employment and housing discrimination, wrongful termination, marital issues and family law issues, and criminal and civil appeals.

HCBA Leadership Institute Project: To provide a year long training for members of the HCBA that want to become leaders of the bar association and also, participate in charitable activities in the community

Pathways in Law project: Specifically targeted at crime prevention involving children from a high-risk area.

Diversity Internship Program: To provide opportunity for first through third year law students of under-represented minority backgrounds, who have an interest in practicing law in Hillsborough County upon graduation, to obtain summer placement in private law firms and governmental/judicial agencies in Hillsborough County legal community.

Living Will and Health Care Surrogate Project: Conduct pro bono legal clinics to assist in drafting documents to meet individual needs. Provide safe keeping documents along with wallet-sized card to indicate where documents may be located in the event of emergency.

CBA Community Law Project: To assist low-income African American senior citizens in Belle Glade, Delray Beach, Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach in creating wills and advanced directives and conduct two Community Forums for the African American Community about hot button legal issues such as the rise in foreclosures.

GEBA Mentoring Program: For 25 students to participate in the Bar’s Role Model Committee mentoring program to provide students exposure to the various facets of the legal profession via monthly speaker bureaus, a State Courthouse tour, law office visit tours, participation in a mock trial and debate, an essay writing competition and a Scholarship banquet.

Community Legal Education: Through a bi-monthly radio program in Creole broadcast in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties enhance public awareness about the consequences of unlicensed practice of law and how to avoid being victimized by such practices which are provided mainly in immigration, family law and foreclosure/loan modification, to educate the general public about the importance of having an attorney handle their legal affairs, and the legal resources available to them as immigrants and homeowners.

Kinship Care CLE and Mentoring Training: To provide CLE to attorneys to educate and train them to provide legal and mentoring assistance to relative caregivers. Free only if attorney agrees to take one pro bono case. Otherwise CLE fee will go back to support program.

Law and Government in High School: To support the county’s first high school program offering student exploration of careers in law through bar members assisting young people as they make important career decisions regarding the development, interpretation and practice of law.

Basic Legal Seminars and Legal Research: Through seven seminars/workshops provide basic understanding of several aspects of the law to an anticipated 100 elderly and low and middle-income residents and expose residents to the resources available at the Marion County Law Library.

Family Visitation Center: Funding to assist in the bar association’s efforts to establish a visitation center for Nassau county parents subject to court-ordered supervised visitation.

Electronic Fieldtrip: To produce an “electronic fieldtrip” in collaboration with the Education Network (Palm Beach County School system) and the Historical Society of Palm Beach County to educate students and the general public about their rights and responsibilities of citizenship with focus on the judicial and corrections system.

Civics and Law in Education Program: To bring civics and law back into the educational system in Sarasota County through a magazine written by volunteer Sarasota County Bar and YLD members and distributed free to approximately 40,000 students in collaboration with Sarasota County School System and local newspaper

Professional Women’s Exchange: To bring professional women together to raise awareness of specific community service needs related to women/families – a network to help address those needs. The 2009-10 program will focus on helping transition women from public support to work, but this network, would serve as a permanent vehicle to raise money annually for projects.

Pro Bono Initiative: Members will volunteer translation assistance to Spanish-speaking pro se family law litigants who attend “Family Forms Clinics” at the George Edgecomb Courthouse in Tampa.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities Jump Off: A College Recruitment Event: To plan and execute their annual Jump Off college recruiting event for high school students from Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties to learn about Florida’s four historically black institutions of higher education, meet with recruiters and receive financial aid information targeted primarily to minority and low income students.

Historic Black Church Project: Provide multi-disciplinary resources in education, law, and social services to under-served communities through: 1) rights education seminars and 2) legal referrals for pro bono legal assistance.

Space Coast Community Law Academy: A free weekly service on legal seminars to educate the community on current important legal subjects such as foreclosure, bankruptcy, social disability, employment law, landlord and tenant and consumer law/small claims.

US Citizenship and Temporary Protective Status Drive: providing free assistance to eligible individuals to complete the US citizenship application and temporary protective status.
