Lee County Pay-or-Appear Program: A two-year pilot project to test the “pay-or-appear” program to increase child support collections in cases not handled by the Florida Department of Revenue and decrease judicial and administrative involvement.

Tracking Florida Death Row Inmates: This project, which began in 1980, records specific information about all death penalty cases in Florida.

Proactive self-administered grant. Supreme Court Commission Message Development Project to test messages that have been developed by an Advisory Committee appointed by the Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court for a communication campaign to maximize the funding of Florida’s courts.

Perceptions in Justice: To provide general support of resources for a statewide law related education (LRE) program to impact students, teachers, judges, attorneys and policy-makers.

Florida Justice Teaching Institute: To provide funds for travel expenses for Florida middle and high school teachers to attend the Institute. The Florida Justice Teaching Institute equips teachers with the academic and clinical experiences necessary to effectively teach students about the court system.

To provide general support of the Supreme Court Historical Society whose mission is to identify, secure and preserve artifacts and documents that chronicle the evolution and history of the state’s judicial system and to educate Floridians about the critical importance of the Third Branch of government.

Florida Supreme Court Committee on Privacy and Court Records: For partial support of the work of the Supreme Court Committee on Privacy and Court Records which is charged to develop recommendations regarding policies controlling electronic release of court records, as well as to develop strategies to reduce the amount of personal and sensitive information that is unnecessarily filed in court records and thus subject to potential release.

Florida Court Public Information Officer Training: To provide funds for consultant fees and travel expenses for a three-day seminar in 2004 to train new Florida Court Public Information Officers appointed under a special directive from Florida’s Chief Justice in 2002 as part of the state judiciary’s emergency operations planning.

Reporting on the Courts and the Law: A workshop for Journalists. To provide funds for the cost of journalists, who are new to the court and legal beats, to attend an intensive two-day workshop that will educate them on judicial issues.

To reduce attitudinal barriers and, therefore, improve outcomes of court and other law-related proceedings for persons with disabilities through increasing employment options for disables persons in the legal field (law schools, paralegal schools, law firms, courts systems, governmental entities and other related legal entities).

To provide general support for the initiative to screen and investigate criminal cases and to advocate for the release of inmates excluded from criminal responsibility through DNA testing. To support the initiative which seeks to screen each criminal case in which the initiative’s assistance is sought, to investigate every case in which meritorious innocence claims are found, to achieve DNA testing when biological evidence remains extant, to advocate for the release of each inmate excluded from criminal responsibility through this highly [DNA] forensic inquiry. Two-year grant, second year funding released pending review of progress in the first year (2005) and the availability of funds.

Justice for Girls: Florida’s Juvenile Justice Reform Initiative: For two-year support of an initiative that will spearhead systemic reform in the care and treatment of girls in Florida’s Juvenile Justice System and includes a Florida-based Girls Reform Blueprint Taskforce combined with a Public Information Advocacy Campaign.
